I found an open source sound font player on GitHub. I'm using it under Mac OS 10.12 with no issues so far. Juicy SF works great within Unify stand alone and within a DAW. Juicy SF offers the ability to load a single sound font (.sfz2 format) and select instruments within the sound font (one to 127 instruments are inside sound fonts). Juicy SF allows you to set Attack, Decay, Sustain, Release, Cutoff, and Resonance. Juicy SF is also a stand-alone app that doesn't require a host. I've used other free/commercial sound font players but they almost always crashed Unity. Juicy Tip: You can assign a Unify Macro knob to select individual sound font instruments within Juicy SF! Good find, thanks for sharing.
Unfortunately, Juicy SF seems only to be distributed in source-code form. I looked into creating VST binaries, and realized this has a crazy number of dependencies. Sixteen additional DLLs required on Windows, including some really hairy stuff like pthread and portaudio. Practically un-maintainable. If it works for you, that's great, but I'd steer clear of it myself.
