You’re done. Now, anytime you need to run an ADB or Fastboot command, simply open up a command-prompt (which can be done by typing “cmd” into the start menu) and enter your command.

Mac OS X Guide

If your Mac has OS X El Capitan (v10.11 and up), then you need to first disable System Integrity Protection by following these steps. You can re-enable it after you finish installing ADB.
Download the Android zip file from here: adb-fastboot-install
Extract the zip file you just downloaded by double clicking it.
Open the newly created unzipped folder.
Open the Terminal application on your Mac.
(If you don’t know where it is, you can search for it from Spotlight with ⌘-Space or find it in your Applications >Utilities folder)
Drag and drop the “ADB-Install-Mac.sh” file from the unzipped folder into the Terminal window.
Press enter in the Terminal window. You may need to enter your Mac password to complete the installation.
Once the installation completes, you’re done. You can now open Terminal anytime and enter ADB or fastboot commands. Be sure to re-enableSystem Integrity Protection if you disabled it at the start of this guide.

I have the adb file chilling in my home folder on my mac and just connect it to my FTVs anytime I need to make changes. Is this different/better from just running adb through terminal like I have been from the start?

The only advantage of this method to what you’re doing is the instructions above will install ADB and Fastboot system wide. This means you can run ADB and Fastboot commands from any directory while in the Terminal app.

A Mac tip —
1. Open System Preferences
2. Open Keyboard Preferences
3. Click on the Shortcuts tab and select Services
4. Scroll down to Files and Folders and enable “New Terminal at Folder.” Quit System Preferences.

Assume that all your apk files are in your Downloads folder. To install an apk file via ADB, open your Home Directory and right click on Downloads. The Services menu will open and allow you to open a new Terminal at your Downloads folder. You no longer have to use any paths. Simply write “adb install xyz.apk”. Done

I seem to be having issues… it doesn’t seem to be reading my installation? ADB commands don’t seem to be working.

Here is what is popping up on my terminal

I had this problem too. As of El Capitan the usr/bin folder is restricted so the install script will no longer work. To work around this you can disable “System Integrity Protection” then running the install script will work.

Im having problems too, same as JR and Terry. I followed the guide to turn off Rootles system integrity check. Osx rebooted and I tested by running “csrutil status” in terminal and it said “System Integrity Protection status: disabled”

I still get “-bash: fastboot: command not found” tho… what to do?

ME too. Install Batch is working fine. Files are being copied. Even ran as administrator to make sure. No errors on install. But going to just check version from cmd prompt gets the ‘adb’ is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

For Mac users experiencing the ‘command not found’ error, try prepending the command with ./

For example, ./adb devices

And here’s a time-saving tip: When typing anything at the command line, you can type the first character or couple of characters of, for example, an apk you want to install, then hit the tab key and bash will fill in the rest of the name for you.

I just tried installing v 1.4.3 on Win 10: when Installing ADB and FASTBOOT…. (System-wide) it shows 0 files copied instead of 4 files as per your images on this help page.

So, Under Environmental Variables, for PATH, you need to add the path to the abd.exe file.

Before beginning to know how to install these we need to know what these are and why they are required?

What is ADB?

ADB know and as Android Debug Bridge. By the name itself, we find that this is the software that is used for debug purpose of an Android device. It is basically available in Android development SDK. In short, it is used to execute command lines on the android device using your computer. It is the link between your Android device and the computer. By this device using the computer, you can control the Android device by connecting to a USB. We can also execute advances shell commands using this.

What is Fastboot?

Fastboot similar to the ADB is available in the Android SDK package. Setup ADB and Fastboot

After the installation just setup the environment variables and then that’s it. But if you want to install ADB and Fastboot you can follow the following steps which are clearly explained in detail.

Steps to Install with 15 second ADB Installer [ Method #1 ]

First, download the drives of ADB and Fastboot from above link. Then follow the following steps

After downloading run the .exe file in the package

You will get a command window. Observe, the command window and you have to type”Y” without quotes if you want to install ADB and Fastboot.

And as you typed Y and given permission to install ADB and Fastboot, the setup will install them both and also copy all the files required into the directory.
Once again type ‘Y’ to install the device driver. This may take few seconds to install the device drivers and after that, the command window will automatically close.

Steps to Install with Minimal ADB and Fastboot [ Method #2 ]

Here in this method also you need to download the minimal ADB software which is provided by XDA developer member with username @shimp208.
The software contains only one .exe file. just run the .exe file that is downloaded.
After that, the software will ask for the installation path. Provide the installation path and follow the installation steps carefully.

After that select the file location and follow the next steps as shown in the software interface. It will install the software.
Finally, after all the steps, you have successfully installed the software on your computer and you are ready to roll on

After installation, you need to check whether the ADB and fastboot are installed properly. For this go to the installation directory abd by holding on your Shift Key & press the right button of your mouse. It will open the command prompt.
Now type adb devices and it will list the list of adb devices available.

You have now been able to install ADB on Windows system. Hope everything went normally without any issues. From now you have established a connection between your PC and device which let you do further customization in Android OS.

Once you extract the zip file, move the folder from the extracted data to your desktop.
Start a new Terminal Window.
Enter the below command,

Again enter the following commands as mentioned below,

Now you will be able to run ADB and Fastboot commands from the same Terminal window. That’s it!
You have been successful to install ADB on macOS.

Install ADB and Fastboot on Linux

To Install ADB and Fastboot on Linux platform you have to do some command stuff. Ubuntu users can skip the repository step and directly step on to the install command. But for others, they have to follow it.

Download the platform tools package for Linux: Link
Extract the ZIP and move it to the desktop.
Now Open the Terminal window.
Enter the following command:

This will change the directory to where you extracted the ADB files.
So for example:

Connect your device & Change the mode to “file transfer (MTP)” mode.
Enter the below command again,

Allow USB debugging and re-enter the command adb devices.
If everything was successful, you should now see your device’s serial number in the Terminal window output.
Congrats! You have now been able to install ADB on Linux.

Linux Command to Install ADB and Fastboot on Linux
